A Priority Liquor License
Obtaining a liquor license can be a difficult process, especially considering that the ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) restricts the number of licenses that are issues per county. The number of licenses is based upon the population vs. existing license ratios for each county. When a county has more applicants than licenses there are public drawings where priority rankings are assigned. Obtaining one of these “Priority Liquor Licenses” are subjected to a unique set of requirements and restrictions. Below we are going to tell you what you’ll need to do to apply for a “Priority Liquor License” in the State of California.
Filing Period for a Priority Liquor License
There is a limited amount of time that you can apply for a Priority Liquor License. This year, 2013, the dates are going to be September 9th through September 20th. There are a limited number of licenses that are available and are only available in certain counties. You will want to check with your local ABC office to see if there are any Priority Liquor Licenses available in your county.
Application Fees
If you plan on applying for a Priority Liquor License there are going to be fees attached to that. The fees for applying for a Priority Liquor Licenses are as follows:
- Original On-Sale General – $13,800
- Original Off-Sale General – $13,800
- Inter-county Transfer On-Sale General – $6,000
- Inter-county Transfer Off-Sale General – $6,000
If you are unsuccessful in obtaining a Priority Liquor License then you will be refunded the application fee minus $100 for a service charge.
Complete the Application
The application for the Priority Liquor License may either be mailed into your local ABC office or you can go there to fill one out. Remember, the deadline this year is September 20th and no applications will be accepted after this date. If you are filling one out in person at an ABC office you’ll need to be in the doors before 5 PM on September 20th. If you are mailing in the application you will need to have it postmarked on or before September 20th.
